Avodart is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia in men with an enlarged prostate. It helps improve urinary flow and may also reduce your need for prostate surgery later on.

Before you take Avodart...
Avodart should never be taken by a woman or a child. Avodart capsules should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant.
Dosages of Adovart varies by patient. Use Adovart exactly as prescribed by your doctor and/or the directions on your prescription label.
Take the capsule with a full glass of water.
Avodart can be taken with or without food.
Do not chew, crush, or open an Avodart capsule. Swallow the capsule whole.
If you miss a dose of Avodart, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
If you suspect you may have overdosed on Adovart, or are having an allergic reaction the medication, seek medical attention immediately.
Common side effects include:
-decreased amount of semen released during sex
-impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection)
-breast tenderness or enlargement

There are drugs that interact with Avodart. You should tell your doctor about all of the medications you use, including prescription drugs, vitamins, supplements and herbal products, and over the counter medications. You should always tell your doctor before you start taking new medication.
